Doing A PhD in Africa (DAPIA)

Doing A PhD in Africa (DAPIA) is a growing Pan-African scholarly community and knowledge platform supporting doctoral candidates, early-career researchers and emerging knowledge leaders across the continent and beyond.

Established in 2017, DAPIA creates spaces for mentorship, peer learning, research dialogue and professional development through doctoral clinics, writing support, strategic conversations and community engagement. The platform responds to the often fragmented realities of doctoral journeys in African contexts by fostering community, visibility, knowledge exchange and practical support across disciplines and countries.

DAPIA is particularly interested in the future of doctoral education in Africa, including questions of research translation, leadership, employability, knowledge ecosystems and equitable pathways within academia and beyond.

Through both virtual and in-person engagement, DAPIA continues to cultivate a connected and collaborative community of African scholars committed to knowledge production, critical inquiry and societal transformation.
